The capital George Town offers some of the finest shopping and dining in the Caribbean and is with 20.000 inhabitants the only place which you can call actually call a town. It is a tourist city where you will see more tourists than local residents, which are often visitors from abroad with holidayhomes as well. At Seven Mile Beach, just to the north of George Town, you can relax in your hammock shaded by majestic Casuarina trees. The beach is rated as one of the world's best white sanded beaches, known all over the world. It is Seven Mile Beach which is dotted with some of the most luxury resorts, tourists sunbathing, children swimming in its crystal clear waters and several cruise ships on the skyline. It is in one word a paradise.
Most tourist fly into Owen Roberts International Airport just west of the capital. From there they are being brought to their vacation resorts or continue their flight to Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. Nearby sights are the exotic flowers in the Tropical Gardens, the Cayman Islands National Museum, excellent galleries, some birds in Cardinal D's Park and beautiful handcraft markets in town. You can enter one of the two submersibles (actually pressurized submarines) that bring you to a depth of over eight hundred feet off the south wall without getting wet. It is a great experience to see the many creatures living off the wall, going deeper and deeper until you only see the ship's lights.
West of George Town you will find some excellent dive sites such as the wreck the Kali, Eden Rock and Devils Grotto. The steep South Coast Wall which runs from Coconut Walk Bay all the way to Prospect Point is the place where you will find Japanese Gardens, a great maze of caverns, caves, prey and groups of hunters.
